oils+fats more international than ever
  • oils+fats 2008 to feature some 70 exhibitors from 15 countries
  • Share of international exhibitors approximately 40 percent
  • Panel discussion on "Oils and Fats from Renewable Resources and the Conflicting Priorities of Food vs. Energy"
  • Practice-oriented program of related events

oils+fats, the International Trade Fair for the Production and Processing of Oils and Fats Made from Renewable Resources, will open its gates at the M,O,C, in Munich for the second time from November 18 – 20, 2008. At present, approximately 70 of the industry's leading manufacturers from 15 countries have registered for the fair. oils+fats meets the highest international standards, a fact reflected by the increased share of international exhibitors (about 40 percent). The amount of exhibition space is also higher than last year, having increased to 3,000 m².

oils+fats showcases the entire process used to produce and further process oils and fats made from renewable resources at a single platform. The extensive range of exhibits, which covers everything from auxiliary materials, plants and machinery to quality control and logistics, has generated a great deal of demand both in Germany and abroad.

According to Norbert Bargmann, Managing Director at Munich International Trade Fairs, "We created an interesting niche market when we established oils+fats. The large share of international exhibitors from four continents shows us that oils+fats is a communications platform for the global oils and fats industry. We are very pleased that the world's leading manufacturers in this sector come to Munich to present their new products and services."
The program of related events at oils+fats in English and German gives qualified visitors first-hand information on topics of relevance to the oils and fats industry.

The first day of the fair will examine the topic of "Oils and Fats Made from Renewable Resources and the Conflicting Priorities of Food versus Energy" in a panel discussion titled "Enough for Everyone: Fact or Fiction?" The panel discussion will be moderated by Dr. Jörg Eggers, Deputy Managing Director of OVID, which represents the interests of oilseed-processing companies in Germany. Panel members include Dr. Axel Berg, Deputy Energy Policy Speaker of the SPD Bundestag fraction, Andreas Pilzecker, Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development, European Commission, Dr. Edgar Remmele, Director of the Standards and Quality Assurance Division of the Technology and Support Center in the Competence Center for Renewable Resources in Straubing, and Günter Simon, Managing Director of Harburg-Freudenberger Maschinenbau GmbH.

The DGF (German Society for Fat Science) is holding training courses (in German) on Stabilizing Lipids in Food and Modifying Fats and Oils.

The Federal Association of Decentralized Oil Mills is holding a series of seminars to inform visitors and interested visitors about culinary-oil sensors, storing rapeseed and rape cake and tax-related aspects of the production and sale of vegetable oil. A series of practical short courses in English on the first two days of the fair will examine topics such as Advanced Edible Oil Refining & Processing: Case Studies and Trouble Shooting and Biodiesel: Market Trends, Chemistry & Production.  On November 20, everything will revolve around the Industrial Uses of Vegetable Oils: Biodiesel, Ink, Solvents, Lubricants and Bio-Plastics (Organizer: ID&A Ignace Debruyne & Associates VOF and Filtration and Membrane World LLC).
